What would you do with a renewed interest in life?

Depression, anxiety, and trauma can rob you of hope and energy, but with the right support, there is a full, meaningful life waiting beyond these diagnoses.

For some, traditional psychiatric medications are effective, but when the more common treatment options haven’t helped, it’s time to take a new approach.

Ketamine-Assisted Therapy: A New Path to Healing

Ketamine assisted therapy is an emerging treatment option for people who have found little to no relief with traditional approaches. By combining the powerful effects of expanded states of consciousness with deep therapeutic integration, this innovative treatment provides rapid symptom relief and a renewed access to life.

How ketamine assisted therapy works

Leveraging neuroplasticity for long-term healing

The process begins with ketamine’s ability to unlock the brain’s neuroplasticity—the capacity of the brain to reorganize and form new neural connections. When used in a controlled, therapeutic setting, ketamine can stimulate specific neural pathways that are vital for emotional processing. It activates areas of the brain that allow you to access and process difficult memories, release stored emotions, and regulate your mood.

While ketamine works on a cellular level to create lasting change, the real power comes when it’s paired with psychotherapy. The therapeutic integration helps you navigate these new emotional landscapes, reinforcing and sustaining the breakthroughs you experience. This dual approach offers long-term healing by enabling you to make lasting shifts in your mental and emotional health, giving you the tools to continue your journey of transformation long after the treatment ends.

Ketamine assisted psychotherapy can help with the following:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

  • Chronic pain

  • Addictive behaviors

  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

Ketamine assisted psychotherapy can:

  • Provide quick symptom relief

  • Reduce feelings of hopelessness

  • Improve emotional processing

  • Promote neuroplasticity

  • Encourage personal growth and discovery

  • Lower anxiety

  • Access deeper emotions

  • Enhance traditional therapy methods

  • Offer relief from loneliness and social isolation

  • Provide a renewed sense of hope

Dr. Jeffrey Mandelkorn

My approach to ketamine assisted therapy

I consider ketamine assisted psychotherapy to be an opportunity to help clients who haven't had much relief from more traditional approaches. To this end, I work collaboratively with amazing medical prescribers to provide personalized and informed care. You and the prescriber will meet together to develop a treatment plan for the ketamine treatments. My role as the psychotherapist is to help you harness the powerful changes that await you so you can live a more enriched and fulfilling life.

I am proud to help clients make sense of their ketamine-driven insights while also encouraging them to make lifestyle adjustments that enact meaningful changes in their lives. Depression, anxiety, and trauma bring self-limiting beliefs, pain, and unhelpful behaviors into your life. As your therapist, I can help you move away from thoughts and actions that no longer serve you.

It is important to me that clients feel supported throughout the ketamine treatment process, from initial sessions where we discuss your needs to answering questions about the process of ketamine treatment itself, and most importantly, to sessions after treatment where I can help you sustain the positive changes you experience.

This is a newer approach to mental health treatment, and clients often have many questions. I’m here to answer them and to help you feel seen and understood.

A safe, modern method of treating mental health conditions

Support for ketamine assisted psychotherapy is available to you in a couple different ways. If you are already connected with a ketamine provider, or have had a previous experience with plant medicine, you may be referred to Dr. Mandelkorn for integration sessions. These sessions with a provider familiar with expanded states of consciousness can help you capitalize on insights derived from the experience and transmute that into meaningful change.

If you are at the beginning of your ketamine assisted psychotherapy journey, Dr. Mandelkorn will connect you with one of his prescribing partners to receive ketamine treatment. The prescribing partner you choose will walk you through the treatment experience specific to their practice so you’ll know what to expect.

Support before the ketamine treatment process

Dr. Mandelkorn puts a high priority on ensuring his clients fare well in the ketamine treatment process.

He will meet with you before ketamine treatment to discuss why you're seeking treatment, what you hope to get out of the experience, and to answer any questions so you can feel well-informed as you progress through treatment.

Your well-being throughout this process is important to Dr. Mandelkorn, and you can rest assured knowing you have solid support whenever needed.

Support after ketamine treatment

After ketamine treatment, Dr. Mandelkorn’s main priority is helping you maintain this newly available brain functioning you’ve unlocked through ketamine treatment.

When you aren’t used to living a life without depression, anxiety, or trauma symptoms, you may find you need to re-learn how to go about your day. How can this new, more mentally interconnected version of you work towards goals, make changes in your life, or build frustration tolerance? How do you navigate this new emotional awareness, and how can you sustain these changes?

Dr. Mandelkorn is here to help you build these skills through integration sessions after ketamine treatment. The renewed sense of hope and energy after ketamine treatment doesn’t have to be a short-term experience, especially with the support of a therapist who can help you see how worthy, capable, and confident you can be.

Frequently Asked Questions about Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

These are the most frequently asked questions about ketamine assisted therapy. If you don’t see your question answered here, please don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Mandelkorn; he will be happy to help!

Is ketamine assisted therapy safe? Is it addictive? Is it legal?

Ketamine assisted therapy is safe and legal. It’s been approved by the FDA for specific mental health conditions, and the parameters are very clear, so you won’t receive a go-ahead for ketamine assisted therapy without meeting the criteria that indicate it can help you.

You will be receiving a measured dose of ketamine, either intravenously or via nose spray, in a medical setting, where you’ll be observed closely.

Because the dosages are small and only provided at specific intervals, ketamine assisted therapy does not pose a risk of addiction either.

Can I just be prescribed ketamine without having to deal with therapy?

Ketamine treatment alone does not offer the same lasting effects that ketamine assisted therapy can provide.

It can be disorienting to experience increased access to memories and emotions, and having therapist support as you process that experience can be crucial to ensure your treatment makes a difference and that you can direct the experience into lasting changes that improve your life.

If my depression is treatment-resistant, why would ketamine assisted therapy help?

Ketamine assisted therapy was a process developed specifically to help people with treatment-resistant depression because it works differently from other medication and therapy approaches.

Because ketamine’s effect is rapid and directly impacts the parts of your brain that experience depression symptoms, and the therapy support around ketamine treatment is so robust, the approach is different enough to help many who experience treatment-resistant depression.

How many ketamine treatment sessions will I need? How many therapy sessions will I need?

For both ketamine treatment sessions and integrative therapy sessions, you will work with both the prescribing partner and Dr. Mandelkorn to decide on the number of sessions that will work best for you. It is not uncommon to have multiple treatment sessions, and it is worthwhile to have multiple integration sessions per treatment as well.
